You don't need to know how to sew

Honestly. Half the people here started by watching. Come in, have a look, sit down somebody will show you.

  • Never touched a machine

Start on a Thursday. It’s free and there’s tea.

  • On mutual obligation

We’re a registered host and we’ll do the paperwork.

  • School or corporate group

Bring the lot. Training provided, no experience needed.

  • Been sewing 40 years

You'll have a queue of people wanting to learn from you.

  • Just want somewhere to be

That’s allowed. Sit and natter. No purchase necessary.

  • Kids in the holidays

KRANK. Four mornings, one thing they made themselves.

More than a fabric shop

  1. Make

Classes, workshops and open sewing. Machines, overlockers, cutting tables and someone to ask.

  2. Meet

Coffee mornings, knit & natter, social sewing. Turn up on your own, leave with people.

  3. Give

Charity sewing sessions. Every stitch goes to somebody who needs it, and we supply the fabric.

And there's a shop

Two shops in one: donated fabric and haberdashery at op shop prices, and a handmade emporium of things our volunteers made. Everything's one-off. Everything funds the room.

Out and about

The Lair pays the rent. The charity does the rest.

Every dollar from classes, the op shop and the emporium keeps these rooms open — and whatever's left goes into Sewing for Charity projects around Australia.

Clearing out a cupboard?

Fabric, wool, patterns, buttons, machines, half-finished quilts you're never going back to. Drop it at any of the three — whatever the charity can sew with gets sewn, and the rest keeps the lights on.
