Whatever you can do, and whatever you can't, there's something on the list. About sixty people keep this place running and most of them walked in off the street.

Ways to join in

  • Volunteer

    An hour a week or three days a week. Come when you can, tell us when you can't.

  • Mutual obligation

    We're a registered host. We do the paperwork, we sign the forms, and you get treated like everyone else.

  • Groups

    Schools, workplaces, community groups, work experience. Bring the lot — we'll find you all something.

What volunteering actually looks like

Pick what suits. Change your mind whenever you like.

  • Sorting donations

    Quiet, methodical, headphones allowed. The most needed job we have.

  • Measuring & pricing

    Tape measure, calculator, sticker gun. Oddly satisfying.

  • Photographing stock

    Four phone photos per item. We’ll show you the setup.

  • Serving in the shop

    Chatting, wrapping, cutting. Good if you like people.

  • Helping in classes

    You don’t teach — you thread needles and stop meltdowns.

  • Charity sewing

    Straight seams, big impact. We supply everything.

  • Machine repair

    If you can service a sewing machine we will adore you.

  • Morning tea

    Somebody has to, and it’s a genuinely important job.

Things people worry about, answered

Most of the jobs don’t involve sewing. Sorting, pricing, photographing, serving, making tea, fixing machines, carrying boxes. And if you want to learn, you’re in the right building.

Fine. Come when you can. We’d rather have you once a month than not at all, and there’s no roster guilt here.

Tell us what you need and we’ll work it out. There’s seated work, standing work, quiet work and loud work. Both shops are step-free with accessible toilets.

Nobody did on their first day. Come to a Thursday coffee morning first if that’s easier — no commitment, no sign-up, just turn up and see if you like us.

There’s plenty of work out the back. Sorting and measuring is quiet, methodical and you can put your headphones in.

16 to volunteer on your own. Under 16 is welcome with a parent, and there’s work experience for high school students — get your school to email us.
